After a strong start to the season, Aston currently sits second in the Constructors’ World Championship standings, despite being overtaken at times by rivals Ferrari and Mercedes.
Fallows said it was natural for Silverstone to look to the current dominant Red Bull as a reference, acknowledging that the AMR23 could be improved in every way.
“We need to think about where we are relative to Red Bull,” Fallows said. “But I think there are areas where we think we are relatively strong.
“Also, we have to optimize our car for each specific track, which means that sometimes there can be issues with low-speed, high-speed corners that are not as strong as some of the other competitors.
“Red Bull as a concept has evolved a bit longer than ours. We took a different concept very publicly at the beginning of last year. We’re still developing it.
“We think we’ve taken a big step this year, but we’ve got a ways to go. Honestly, I wouldn’t point to one of those areas. I think we just need to improve everything, really.”
Fallows says the Aston Martin is an excellent all-rounder with no particular weaknesses.
“I don’t necessarily think our cars have particular advantages in certain areas,” he said. “I think we’ve managed to make a car that is quite capable in many different areas. We can tweak it to what we think is best for that particular track.
“From an aerodynamic and mechanical point of view, there are definitely areas we’re looking at where we think we can make progress. But I honestly don’t see it as a car with any major weaknesses at the moment.
“It’s just that we want to build on the pace we’ve got and keep going with the same philosophy.”

Fallows said teams should not focus too much on straight-line speed and DRS performance, which have been Red Bull’s strong strengths so far in 2023. Other teams have also made mistakes with ultra-low drag kits.
“We want to optimize the lap times on every track we go to in a way,” he said. Bed at your top speed.
“But honestly, we try to focus on what we think is the fastest final lap time and why we think it’s also the fastest race. So that’s really our focus, not what other people are doing around us. “
Asked if Aston could win this season on quality, Fallows pointed out: “I’d love to say it’s possible to win this season.
“Obviously some circuits are not necessarily normal races, sometimes the cars have special characteristics that can be played. For example in Monaco, it is such a circuit.
“But honestly, I think we’re being realistic about where we are, where we are at the moment, and our focus is really on maximizing our performance on the car in the shortest possible time. We’ll see what happens What kind of return will it bring?”
Fallows acknowledged the team doesn’t want to sacrifice 2023 by prematurely shifting its focus to next season.
“We definitely want to start next year’s car as early as possible. The real race for us is to make sure we don’t sacrifice this year’s car. Inevitably, it will be an evolution of this year’s car.
“So everything we can do to get the data, to get the updates for the car this year, will certainly inform that. But yes, we’ll be looking to start early.”
He also concedes that the 2024 stabilization rule means that any gains AM23 achieves can carry over to next season: “Yes, that’s why we can see it as an evolutionary step.
“Again, we don’t want to be more aggressive than we have been this year in the way we develop the car.”
For Red Bull Racing, the Monaco Grand Prix is a race with two faces. Max Verstappen won convincingly, but team-mate Sergio Perez saw his chances of a good position come to naught after an accident in qualifying. However, the Mexicans did top the list. Red Bull’s pit crew changed four tires on Perez’s RB19 in top speed.
For those still hoping for an exciting world title, there’s bad news: the title race is over. Sergio Perez ruined his last chance to cause trouble for Max Verstappen in Monaco. Now only Verstappen can throw it away, but given the Dutchman’s character and the game ahead, that’s unlikely.
