Ferrari F1 will bring updates to “every single race”

Like other companies, Ferrari unveiled parts in Monaco that were supposed to debut at the canceled Imola race.

Another package will be released next week in Barcelona, where teams traditionally try to take a big step forward with major updates.

However, Vasseur said it’s best not to read too much into the Spanish weekend’s results, as it’s just one step in an ongoing effort to improve the SF-73.

“We shouldn’t be bringing updates in Monaco because it’s a tough issue,” Vasseur said.

“And we want to focus more on the set-up and the driving over the weekend.

“But what we were supposed to bring at Imola will hit the road this weekend. Next week we will take another step forward in Barcelona.

“It wasn’t the easiest to update the car in Monaco because I think it’s more important for the team to focus on the drive and the setup.

“But if according to the plan you’re supposed to have something at Imola, we would be foolish not to put it on the car. We were supposed to have a small update at Imola and we’ll bring it tomorrow (Friday). “

On the significance of the Spanish GP package, he said: “Barcelona, of course, it will be an update to the car, but we are not going to bring a big package every five races.

“We’re going to bring small updates every game. I don’t want to say it’s Barcelona or nothing. After Barcelona we’ll have a small update in Montreal and a small update in England/Austria.

“We plan to update each game today through the end of the season.”

Vasseur insists the team’s focus is on each race, not whether it still has a chance of winning the title in 2023.

“I think it’s a mistake to think about championships,” he said. “It’s not that I’m desperate, but we’re going game by game.

“And I think it would be exactly the same if we were leading the championship. I think the worst-case scenario is to overreact in one situation.

“And we’re still pushing, still trying to bring updates, a good update to the car, to try to understand where we have to improve.

“But I’m sure other people will do the exact same thing as us. It doesn’t mean we stop being champions or anything like that.

“The best way to do that is to get everyone motivated and committed to the game and say okay, let’s forget this is wrong.”

Vasseur remains hopeful that the SF-23’s good qualifying form will give the team a chance at victory in Monaco this weekend.

“From the beginning I thought we would always be able to fight for pole,” he said.

“When you have to start from the first row, I think in Monaco you can expect to win, or at least you have a chance to do it.

“Of course, it’s a good opportunity for us. Now let’s see what happens tomorrow and Saturday before we play on Sunday. Step by step.”

He said the team’s focus will not be on improving race form as it has been in recent weekends, given the importance of pole position in Monaco.

“What you can say for Monaco is that quality and speed are much more important than a few weeks ago in Miami or Baku,” he noted.

“It means we’re totally focused on qualifying, but as everybody, nobody’s on the grid to prepare for the race, which is also nonsense.

“We’re totally focused on quality. And I think we qualify in Miami or Baku, maybe this track is better for the car than the other ones as well. We’re hopeful for qualifying.”
