Aston Martin has “great hopes” of fighting for Monaco F1 win

Fernando Alonso The Spaniard, who has secured four thirds so far in 2023, has failed to get along with the dominant Red Bull team.

However, it is believed that the high downforce package required for the Monaco will play to the AMR23’s strengths and the green car will be able to challenge up front.

“Yeah,” Clark said when asked if the team was fighting to win this weekend.

“It would be nice to say yes and do that. We and our two drivers are very hopeful for Monaco, we have a great car. In the simulator, they are all very excited.

“But we can’t forget about the race. There really aren’t that many straights here.

“We haven’t seen Red Bull or ferrari or mercedes benz In a high downforce configuration, because we haven’t had a maximum downforce track so far.

“So I think it’s easy to say, ‘Ah, we’re easily at the front.’ I don’t think it’s going to be that easy. I think we have to be 100 percent all the time.”

Asked if Monaco had the team’s best chance so far this year, he said: “There’s so much that can go wrong on our side, anyone’s side. So I think we first need to respect how competitive it is. In F1, how high are our opponents or competitors here.

“Twelve months ago, we wouldn’t be talking about winning in Monaco. So I think we should never forget where we came from, put our heads down and work hard and see where we end up.”

“It’s easy to make predictions, but your predictions quickly fail. So we’ve seen that, we’ve tried to do it the other way around.”

“And I think we need to look up to the stars, but keep our feet on the ground and work hard. We have to be at least 100 per cent to get a good result this weekend.

“If it’s better than the three podiums we already have, we’d love to take it, but it’s going to be difficult.”

Krack also confirmed that some elements of the planned Imola upgrade package will be on the Monaco car, but others have been postponed until the next race in Spain.

“It split up a little bit,” he said. “Imola upgrades, those that make sense, we’ve been on the car.

“We (will) bring one or two bits to Barcelona because it doesn’t make sense to bring them here. But it’s a divisive approach.

“So we’ll have some updates here, we’ll have some updates in Barcelona. We’ll have more after that.”
